Professor Tsutomu Yamazaki, Director of Innovation & Research Support Center
Professor of School of Medicine

International University of Health & Welfare (IUHW) has been dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in three activities; clinical medicine, education and research since 1995. Around 40 affiliated facilities are providing outstanding medicine and advancing global development of medical welfare especially in Asia. IUHW has been promoting Inter-Professional Education to foster “Team care medicine” specialists. What I am very proud of IUHW is that it has numerous research-oriented and passionate medical staff. In the light of further development of the research in the fields of medicine, health and welfare, IUHW established Innovation & Research Support Center in 2018, and I was inaugurated as the first director.

After graduated from Faculty of Medicine, the University of Tokyo in 1985, I have had clinical experiences as the cardiologist in the early part of my career, and started my research profession at the University of Tokyo Hospital. I was successively appointed to the professor & director of department of pharmaco-epidemiology, clinical bioinformatics research unit, department of clinical epidemiology systems, center for epidemiology & preventive medicine and clinical research support center at the University of Tokyo from 2002 to 2018. I chose early retirement from the University of Tokyo, and obtained this new position on April 1, 2018. I also have been a councilor of IUHW since its establishment. I am willing to support and encourage the research at IUHW for its further improvement.
