Message to Students

My focus has been on basic research regarding diabetic complications (atherosclerosis and diabetic nephropathy). The increase in the number of diabetic patients in Japan is expected to continue with a growing concern of patients suffering from diabetic complications. Research into the mechanism of diabetes and the establishment of its treatment is an urgent matter. With our population aging, our research is focusing on a genetic disorder called progeria to answer a primordial question of “Why do people age?” We encourage students with interest in these areas of study to apply to our program and work globally in the future.
